Vacation Bible School

The boys spent the week at Vacation Bible School at our church. There were over 200 preschoolers! Which is why you can't really see them in these pics. Jackie is in white in the top one. Him, you can see. Adam is in the bottom one, right behind where the leader has her hand up, in a brown and white shirt....oh well, they had a really good time, even though they ended up in the same group!

Last Day of Camp

Today was Jackie's last day of Sport Shorts camp. He had so much fun learning to play different games. He can't wait to go back next summer. And next summer, Adam can join in the fun!

Field Trip Day

The preschool camps took a bus to Fun Fore All to play in the ball area and mini-golf. Here they are, coming back from the buses. Jackie is skipping up the hill. He had a great time.

Lost Backpack

Jackie misplaced his backpack at camp last Thursday. He was upset and told one of the camp counselors "Oh, no! Now I'm not going to be able to go to school anymore!"

I've checked lost and found, but it hasn't turned up. Jack was wondering today where it disappeared to and I thought I'd ask his opinion about what he thought happened to it.

"Well, I had it in the locker room and then I had to go to the bathroom and while I was in the bathroom, I heard my backpack say the magic words and disappear."

What are the magic words?

"Feliz CumpleaƱos."

Happy birthday, little backpack. Guess you turned one and ran away.

Carnival at Camp

The kids had a carnival at camp today, playing games and getting their faces painted. Does Jackie ever pick anything besides Batman?

Pick-up Time

Playing on the playground for a little while after picking up Jackie from camp.

Short Sports

Today was Jack's first day of a two week Short Sports camp, where they play a different sport every day. Today was soccer. Jack had a great time.

He also made sure that everyone called him JackIE. One of his counselors said that JackIE told her that he didn't really like lines and when she told him that he still had to get in line with everyone else, he told her "Well, sometimes I like lines when I'm in the front..." Good for her for making him get back in his place at the end of the line.

Another KidzGIG Pic

Our friend Kim got a good close-up of Jack while he was up on stage. Those noisemakers in the kids' hands were hilarious. They were filled with some sort of beans/rice and some of the kids' ripped while they were on stage; some of the kids started picking up the spilled rice and throwing it in the air during the songs.

KidzGIG

Practicing the "big idea" for one of the days of camp: this is Jack's scared face. Though he couldn't say it word for word the way that it was supposed to be, he did get the idea and said, "Have faith in God, so don't be scared!"

Here is Adam, enjoying the finale to the week, watching his brother singing on stage. He was not happy that he couldn't stay at camp all week. He was actually old enough, but I didn't realize it until too late...but he's a runner, as evidenced by his monkey backpack with tail "leash" that we were testing out before our trip to Disney. Highly effective.

But, if I had known that he was old enough and how enclosed they kept the preschoolers, I would have sent him.

Before you feel too bad for him, know that this week he went to the park, visited his friends Zach and Benny, played with other kids while I went to a workshop and then again at the gym, as well as getting special treats.

Jackie, up on stage, trying to adjust the microphone stand.

Jackie had a great time this week and woke me up each morning with his camp shirt already on, ready to go. I was a student ministries intern at that church, twelve years ago. It was crazy to see the "kids" whom I remember there as ADULT leaders, with kids of their own. Time is not allowed to go that quickly for my own children.

VBS Program

Jackie went to VBS at a church near our house this week. This morning, the kids sang some of the songs for the parents and showed us the different things they did this week. We had heard all about Paul and the underground church, as well as all about the "coolest cave."
Jackie is in the front row, in the middle, in blue.

Adam, enjoying the show
Showing us the cave and clutching his bag of crafts that he made this week.

KidQuest Sunday

Some of the kids who went to KidQuest performed some of the songs they learned this week in church this morning. Jack is in the second row, just to the right of the mic stand.

Lil' KidQuest

Jack went to KidQuest this week, our church's camp/VBS-type event, this week. He had a blast! This was his last day, though he keeps asking if he gets to go back again. "Next year" is not really the answer he is looking for.
